URBAN LIFE AND CITIZENSHIP.
The future of freedom
The malaise of citizens in today’s Western societies derives from the fact that control over the forces which govern our lives is diminishing, instead of growing: we think we are individuals who choose freely, but in fact we are governed by many obligations.
This article examines three areas where we spend our daily lives as citizens: public space, work and family. Finally, a future of freedom is envisaged, characterized by resistance to the paralyzing order and its effects and by action together with others for the common good.
