Abstract:
The Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon region was held from 6 to 27 October.

Here we offer some reflections in its immediate wake on the value of the Assembly, the fourth of Francis’ pontificate.

The “periphery” spoke from the “center”, knowing that its experience would be heard as a prophetic voice for the whole Church.

The Synod for the Pan-Amazon region has come about as a consequence of the Laudato si’.

In addition, it gave the content of this Encyclical a visible body, referring to a region and the peoples who live there. The theological themes in the Synod Hall have always been closely linked to the concrete life of peoples, to geopolitical tensions, to the care of the “common home”. The “new paths” hoped for in the Instrumentum Laboris have been transformed into four “conversions”: pastoral, cultural, ecological and synodal.
