ATTACKS IN SRI LANKA AND ISIS’ NEW STRATEGY

On Easter morning, 21 April 2019, six explosive devices were detonated simultaneously in three major Sri Lankan cities, killing 253 people, 30 foreigners among them, and injured almost 500. The eight suicide bombers hit three Christian churches and three luxury hotels.

The responsibility for the attacks was claimed by a local group affiliated to the IS.

This proves that, despite the loss of “Syria-Iraq”, the Islamic State is still functioning and pursuing its global terrorist strategy; indeed, it has recently regained portions of territory in Syria and Iraq and reappeared in Libya.

In South Asia and Africa, jihadist groups are attacking Christian communities, which in some countries are considered to represent Western interests.
