“TO PUT OUT INTO THE SEA OF HISTORY”.
Francis in Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia
From 5 to 7 May 2019, the Pope undertook his 29th apostolic journey to Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia.
“The most beautiful mosaics are the ones that are richest in colors ”, the Pontiff stated in a video message recoded just before taking off.
In fact, these two countries are mosaics, “bridge”, and “crossroads”, between cultures and religions; two key figures for the evangelization of the Slavic peoples are Saints Cyril and Methodius, while two contemporary figures of sanctity are John XXIII and Mother Teresa: a common European horizon of brotherhood and coexistence in the light of the document signed in Abu Dhabi: an ecumenism born from persecution, service to the poor and the mission of proclaiming the Gospel.
This represents an open vision of the Church in full missionary conversion open to the challenges of the future.
