Seven words for 2019

In this time of challenging changes and conflicts, we cannot run the risk of responding in a way marvelously described in The Leopard by Tomasi di Lampedusa: “We live in a changing reality to which we try to adapt ourselves like seaweed bending under the pressure of water.” We must react.

To give shape to this reaction, the director of La Civiltà Cattolica invites us to consider seven key words for today: fear, order, migration, people, democracy, participation, work.

To react, therefore, it is first of all necessary to reconnect with civil society, with the “common people,” to reconstruct the natural relationship with ordinary folk. In short, we must return to being “one of the people.”
Thus, we inaugurate a new section of our magazine, which briefly intends to get to “The point” of the various issues we will deal with.
