For 77% of Italians it is essential to continue to help the people of the South of the world, while only 19% believe it is wrong to do so. This attitude is widespread especially in Northern Italy (20%), among the unoccupied (32%) and among people with low education (20%). Only 20% of respondents, however, are willing to make their own economic contribution and to engage in the first person.
These are the first data emerged from the survey "Mission, international solidarity and lifestyles of Italians" developed by Censis, in collaboration with the Magis Foundation. The complete results will be presented by Giulio De Rita (Censis) during the symposium "What future for solidarity? Dare the missionary spirit in the contemporary "organized on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Magis, which will be held in Rome, Wednesday, November 21 (at 3:00 pm, room C012 of the Pontifical Gregorian University).
"At a time when we are witnessing episodes of closure and the raising of walls and barriers between peoples - said Father Renato Colizzi - the Magis decided to explore the theme of solidarity with a specific investigation and to reflect on international cooperation and missionary in the contemporary world.
Thirty years of mission to bring peace and culture in the world, helping the most disadvantaged communities to become protagonists of social change, for an integral and sustainable human development, have shown us the value of listening and dialogue.
And this is what we will do on the occasion of the symposium: we will listen, reflect and dialogue, laying the foundations for building together a more solid future ".
