NEW CARDINALS FOR THE CHURCH
Pope Francis has appointed 14 new cardinals – three of whom are non-voters as they are more than 80 years old – who will be raised to the purple June 29, 2018.
The newly elected were chosen from the Pope’s most direct collaborators, amongst whom are bishops of dioceses of various continents, which in some cases are practically unknown, to highlight the catholicity of the Church, or of dioceses affected by particular suffering.
The Pope also wanted to reward those personalities who have worked in favor of the most marginalized and the poorest.
