IN THE HEART OF ASIA: MYANMAR AND BANGLADESH.
On the eve of Pope Francis’ apostolic journey.
From November 27 to December 2, Pope Francis will be in Myanmar and Bangladesh on his twenty-first apostolic journey.
These two nations, located in the heart of Asia, have a tragic and bloody history, following the fall of ties to British colonialism.
They are among the five poorest countries in Asia.
Throughout the world, attention is focused on the humanitarian tragedy taking place along the border between the two countries and the allegations of terrible human rights abuses, especially against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar.
But the focus is also on the threat of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army and on the fears of Islamic extremism.
