EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE AND “POETIC” ATTENTION TO REALITY

The prayer of the examination of conscience, in the light of the dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises, is one of the most precious treasures of Ignatian spirituality.

The article proposes a sort of isomorphism between the way the poet looks at reality and what happens when in prayer we re-read the text of our day.

In both cases we are invited to enter into reality, which is richer than what is confined to a judgment based solely on perceived perception. In other words, looking at reality with «attention» means knowing the world mediated by meaning, with the awareness that such meaning is given, and which is to be discovered and not to be arbitrarily assigned.
