This article aims to address the current process of globalization, its effects and its sustainability in the short term.

After introducing and interpreting recent facts, the article exposes the positive and negative effects of globalization from theoretical and empirical perspectives. It concludes with a consideration on its political sustainability.

Only an intelligent and solid globalization can exist, making the benefits possible and to forestall the serious distributive and environmental problems of this process.

This requires political management, not only at a national level, but above all internationally.
