THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 2021 TO THE FREE PRESS

The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the journalists Maria Ressa from the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov from Russia.

The latter is the editor of one of the few newspapers in Russia that can still express itself freely. The price for journalists who dare to do so can be very high: six employees of Dmitry’s newspaper have been killed in the last twenty years.

The award should make all those in Russia who fight for freedom and human rights proud, but unfortunately, the division in the liberal opposition is so strong that even on this occasion they have not been able to reach an agreement, thus weakening their influence and voice, which would be so important for Russian society.
